The Business Case for an Employer-Sponsored Weight Management Program

This session at the 2018 Forum shared the State of Nevada Public Employees Benefits Programs (PEBP) journey with their Obese and Overweight Care Management (OCM) program, highlighting how a weight-based program is a foundational building block to many important health, productivity and engagement outcomes. During this session, PEBP staff, HealthSCOPE Benefits, and a community physician shared their perspectives on how the program has evolved in recent years, as well as information on program participation and outcomes. The session highlighted what is possible through collaboration between a large employer, the local provider community, and creative payers/administrators. In addition to health and productivity-related outcomes, presenters shared insights on program administration, lessons learned to date, and ideas for future program design and communication. Since most members are enrolled in a high deductible plan, and most of those have a HSA, challenges associated with plan design and incentive structure were also be addressed.
