Downstream Costs of High Cholesterol
High cholesterol contributes to the hardening and narrowing of arteries (known as atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, or ASCVD) – which in turn is a major cause of heart attacks and strokes. The disability costs of cardiovascular conditions related to high cholesterol are less recognized than the healthcare costs and fatality risks. This report provides an analysis of IBI’s STD and LTD benchmarking data that show the average cost differences for ASCVD disability leaves and those for non-circulatory diagnoses.
