2nd Annual Health & Productivity Forum for 2010 attracts record attendance:
This year’s February 8-10 Forum in San Antonio attracted 304 attendees to hear presentations by employers and their supplier partners on the savings in lost time and lost productivity that resulted from their health, absence and disability management initiatives. (See below for comments from attendees.) The program also included measurement techniques to help employers demonstrate the business value of health. The pre-conference session on modeling tools, to help employers with little or no data estimate the health and productivity impact on their workforce, drew a standing-room-only crowd.

Press Coverage
Press coverage of the 2010 Forum has been excellent. Articles may be found in the February 22, 2010 issue of Business Insurance regarding Forum attendance and program, IBI’s latest research on HPM management as a corporate best practice, depression management and prevention, the role of laparoscopic surgery and an NBCH panel on the importance of community health promotion for employers.
IBI/NBCH Health & Productivity Forum Recap
Forum attendance of 304 exceeded last year, without an Exhibit Hall and the extra attendees such a hall requires. Our non-promotional learning environment offers an unparalleled networking environment. The program, with no paid presentations, is designed to help stakeholder communities understand and quantify the impact of poor health and low productivity and then develop solutions to promote the health and productivity of their employees. NBCH, a trade association of 60 employer-based health coalitions across the country, is an ideal partner for IBI, providing an employer distribution channel for innovative initiatives in value-based purchasing.
A panel of independent judges selected Lafarge North America Inc. as the recipient of the IBI/NBCH Healthy Workforce Productivity Award. The award was announced at the Forum. Sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems, Inc., the award recognizes leadership in the area of health and productivity and honors an employer that has worked with its employees to develop, implement and measure an innovative health and productivity initiative. management. By focusing on preventive care Lafarge realized $30 million in avoidable expenses through reduced health care costs and improved health.
The response to the program from attendees and sponsors was excellent. We heard many new success stories and fresh presentations around health and productivity interventions and management.
Our keynote was Mark Bertolini, president of Aetna, who discussed from an insider’s perspective the ongoing debate about health care reform and its impact on employers’ opportunities to promote the health and productivity of their workforces.
